Our Story
Hiking Holidays Ireland is operated by the same team behind Ireland by Bike, a family business based in the village of Carrick, at the foot of Sliabh Liag in Donegal’s South West Gaeltacht area – a part of Ireland with some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.
After years of successfully running cycling tours through this stunning region, we’ve expanded to offer dedicated hiking holidays. We know these hills, mountains and coastal paths intimately – we’ve walked every trail we recommend, in all seasons and weather conditions.
The area is well known for its hospitality, and travellers always speak about the warm welcome they receive here. It’s a part of Ireland where the Gaelic language and local customs and traditions are cherished. Traditional Irish music is alive and well in this region, and in the local pubs and concert venues you’ll hear old and young play lovely local tunes that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Our Self-Guided Approach
Because our tours are self-guided, they allow you the freedom to discover the world at your own pace. Our routes are easy to follow with detailed directions, maps, mobile app with GPS routes, and 24-hour emergency support. You can make the most of being out in nature and fully enjoy the beautiful scenery.
For multi-centre tours, we handle all the logistics – transfers between locations, luggage transfers to your next accommodation, so you only need to carry what you’ll require during your daily hike.
Our Team
Hiking Holidays Ireland is run by the Gallagher family – Séamus, Nóra, and their sons Dominic and Brian. Séamus founded Ireland by Bike in 2009, and over the years he has probably walked, run or cycled on every road and hill in this part of Donegal. This intimate knowledge of the area means we can offer you the very best hiking experiences.
Brian ensures you’re booked into the very best accommodation with hosts who understand the needs of hikers. Our goal is to ensure you have an unforgettable experience hiking in Ireland.
